Goals and Objectives

This course is designed to serve the July 1, 1983 revised Consultant Pharmacist Education Requirements in regulations 64B. Educational Certification will include completion of a post-test at a 70% proficiency level. The goals for the course are:

  1. to prepare the pharmacist to serve as a consultant in the environments of nursing home and hospital pharmacy;
  2. to provide the pharmacist with knowledge of the responsibilities of a consultant pharmacist and
  3. to help the pharmacist learn how to develop quality systems for assuring drug delivery and patient monitoring.

At the conclusion of the course participating pharmacists should be able to:

  1. list the licensing and proficiency requirements to obtain consultant pharmacist license;
  2. relate how a policy and procedures manual should be developed and utilized;
  3. describe how to evaluate (review) medication orders for appropriate indication or diagnosis; drug interactions with other medication; duplication of therapy; appropriate drug dose; interval and route of administration (Regimen Review);
  4. state the requirements for handling all drugs including controlled substances in a hospital or a nursing home, and
  5. analyze the source and rationale for State and Federal regulations governing pharmaceutical services in institutional pharmacy settings such as residential care facilities, jails, psychiatric care units and hospitals.
The Complete Initial Certification Course

The course has been approved for 20 contact hours (2.0 CEU) through ACPE. The fee for the complete course is $395.

Recertification and General Education

Update your knowledge of the regulations, laws, forms, and other materials in this course. This course is designed for pharmacists who wish to become registered as Consultant Pharmacists.

This course is generally four times in Florida during 2006. Each offering is held from Friday through Sunday. Course materials are distributed at 7:45 A.M. on Friday and class begins promptly at 8:00 A.M. each day. Meals, lodging and other travel related expenses are the responsibility of individual participants. Coffee and sodas are provided at break time each day. Ample study time is built into the course to prepare you for the assessment examination which is administered on Sunday morning. Adjournment is at approximately 1:30 P.M. on Sunday.

Entrance to the Course is by Pre-registration Only

Due to the instructional dynamics, the course requires no less than 30 nor more than 75 participants. In the event of less than 30 registrants, the College reserves the right to cancel the program. The College reserves the right to limit enrollment when education quality may be compromised.

Register early – class normally fills and closes early. PLEASE NOTE COURSE BEGINS AT 8:00 A.M. Pre-Registration is required at least three days prior to the course. There is no on-site registration.
