Course Description


The Anticoagulation Therapy Certificate Program employs a multimedia education approach to facilitate learning about the pharmaceutical care of clients with anticoagulation disorders.

 

Overview

The Anticoagulation Therapy Certificate Program employs a multi-media education approach to facilitate learning about the pharmaceutical care of clients with anticoagulation disorders. The program employs a multi-dimensional distance-learning concept, a highly successful combination of different educational methodologies that work together to facilitate and reinforce learning. This course will help raise the quality of the pharmacist-patient relationship by improving the pharmacist's knowledge base and by helping him or her in developing better communication skills. The College of Pharmacy will award 3 continuing pharmacy
education credits (3 CEU's) upon completion of all modules and a Certificate from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, indicating that you have completed a rigorous course of study in Anticoagulation Therapy that you may display proudly at your practice site.

Program of Study

The University of Florida's Anticoagulant Therapy Certificate Program provides the extensive training and information you need to manage the pharmacotherapy of patients on anticoagulant therapy. You will be prepared to:

  • Assess and monitor your patient's condition.
  • Manage complex drug therapy.
  • Efficiently coordinate documentation and record keeping.
  • Apply specialized counseling and teaching skills to better manage and care for your patients.
  • Market and promote the growth of your specialized skills.
  • Generate new income within your pharmacy.
  • Deal with issues related to referral, billing, and budgeting for new services.
  • Modules

    This 12-week program contains five independent learning modules of self-paced study using multimedia presentations and Internet-based assignments. A weekly program schedule will guide you through the mastery of the content and requisite skills necessary to advance to the next module. Each module contains skill-builders, which are Internet and practice-based assignments that assist participants to utilize knowledge gained from the video presentations and required readings to develop anticoagulant therapy monitoring and management skills.

    Anticoagulation Therapy Course Objectives
    1. Relate how pharmacokinetics and pharmacodymanics principles are used to achieve and maintain anticoagulation control within the patient's therapy goals.
    2. Describe the complexities of managing drug therapy and other treatment modalities.
    3. Summarize how pharmaceutical care is applied for patients requiring anticoagulation therapy.
    4. Use effective interpersonal skills to better educate patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals regarding safe and optimal anticoagulation therapy.
    5. Design an anticoagulation management service for effective patient care.
    6. Document anticoagulation therapy for patients receiving such therapy.
