Welcome to the Course Evaluation instruction page. This page consists of five sections. Please read them in order. There is a lot to read. It will take five to ten minutes. However, when you are done reading the pages, completing the course evaluations will be a breeze. Each of the links within this document will be active. If you double click on the link, it will take you to the appropriate page within the College of Pharmacy's Online Course Evaluation system. To get back to the page that you are now reading, just use the "back" function (or its equivalent) of your browser. The course and instructor evaluation system is an important aspect of your course participation. Each week, you will receive an email from the College that provides you with a progress report. So, it is very important that the College has your correct email address. The progress report will inform you of whether you have "completed" a current evaluation, whether one is "pending", or whether you are "late". This progress report is meant as a reminder and, hopefully, will serve to prompt you to complete the evaluations on a timely basis. It is our hope that by completing these evaluations as the semester progresses, rather than all at the end of the semester, you will not feel as rushed and will be able to provide thoughtful information for the instructor. Okay, here's how you do it. 1. Go to the College of Pharmacy home page. You see two "frames". The frame on the right is larger than the frame on the left. Scroll down the left-hand frame until you reach the link entitled "Teacher Evaluations". Double click on the link. 2. You should now be at the "Teacher Evaluations Link" page. In the box that appears, you should see several choices, including Search, COP Combined Faculty Eval(-uation) Form and COP Combined Course Eval(-uation) Form. Double click on the COP Combined Course Eval Form link.
3. In the box that appears, you should see the COP Combined Course Evaluation Launcher. (see the picture below). The first box requests your Social Security Number (SSN). Course evaluations are confidential. Neither your identity nor your individual responses to the questions will be revealed to anyone on the faculty or in the College or University administration. However, since the course evaluations are required, we need a method of tracking whether you have completed your required evaluations. That is the purpose of asking for your SSN. Place your SSN into the box, either with or without hyphens.
The next box is the Password selection. Place the password into the box and double click on the "Submit Query" button. The password is any course number and section number pair that you are registered for. For example if you are taking pha1234 section 9876, your password could be 12349876. When you submit your request, you will be taken to the combined evaluation launcher. It should look similar to the following.
Next, you click on the "Evaluate" button on the left-side of the matrix. You should then be magically transported to the Evaluation page with the ssn, course, section, and instructor values filled in for you. 4. Directly under the Course Section Number box you should see the response categories for the evaluation statements or the Key. These statements are the most important section of the course evaluation form. The response categories ask you about the degree to which you agree or disagree with each of the statements, from 1=strongly disagree to 5=strongly agree. The statements are divided into sub-sections. The subsections ask closed-ended questions about course (a) objectives, (b) content, (c) materials, (d) interaction, placement, flow, and (e) test, papers, assignments.
For the closed-ended, course statements, place your cursor over the radio button response category that most closely reflects your opinion. Click the radio button and a "dot" should appear in the circle. If you want to change your mind, just move your cursor over the new radio button and click. The dot should move from the previous button to the new one. If you do not have an opinion about the statement or choose not to share it, please leave the statement blank and do not click any of the radio buttons for the statement. It is better to leave it blank than to give misleading information. For example, if you did not have any tests or quizzes in a course, leave blank the questions that refer to the exams (ie., the exam questions were clearly worded). The next section asks for your open-ended comments about (a) what aspect of the course content did you like? (b) what aspect of the course content did you dislike? and (c) what course content or process changes would you make to improve this course? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. Leaving the comment boxes blank does not give the course instructor information to improve the course. It is important to identify aspects of the course that you like, as well as those aspects you do not like. At the same time, comments like "The course readings were awful. I didn't read any of them" does not give the instructor much information either. If you did not like the course's readings, what about the readings did you not like? If they were not "clear", then why were they not clear to you? If you did not understand the relationship between a reading and the "point" that was trying to be illustrated by the reading, then say it. A thoughtful and helpful comment is invaluable in the faculty's efforts to continually improve the curriculum. Harsh, hurtful, rude, and useless comments are not helpful and, in fact, are counterproductive. 5. Since evaluations are a course requirement for each course, the College of Pharmacy wants to facilitate completion of this important requirement as much as possible. So, each week throughout the semester, you will receive an important email notifying you of the courses for which you have not yet completed a course evaluation. IMPORTANT! Please be certain that the College has your current email address. This email reminder will be sent to the email address that was last registered with the Office for Student Affairs. If you have not received any email messages throughout the semester from the college, please consider the possibility that the Office for Student Affairs may not have your current email address. If you do not complete a course evaluation for a course, you will receive an "I" or an incomplete grade for the semester because you have not completed all of the course requirements. |
