Working Professional Pharm.D. Program
College of Pharmacy, University of Florida

In January 2002, the Working Professional Pharm.D. (WPPD) program opened a site in Germany. With seven students currently enrolled, these students participate in a modified Remote model of our program. Students meet once a semester for a weekend meeting to take an examination, present cases, and participate in other small group activities. They also participate in weekly teleconferences in combination with our virtual classroom. Due to the limited “clinical pharmacy” practice in Germany, students spend two weeks each year in Florida working with clinical faculty and completing their required clinical assignments.

There are approximately eight Canadian students currently enrolled in the WPPD program. These students attend one of our regional sites, primarily the Detroit, Michigan site.

A proposal is being developed to extend the WPPD program to southeast Asia. Discussions with faculty and administration at Mahidol University in Bongkok, Thailand are currently underway. Pending approval by University of Florida and Mahidol University officials, the program would begin in Fall, 2003. As there are US-trained clinical pharmacy faculty practicing in Bangkok, the WPPD “regional” model would most likely be used.
