The Achieving Preceptor Excellence program (APEX) was developed to act as an umbrella environment to house the creation and distribution of pharmacy preceptor training and support materials. Support for the development of the APEX program has been provided primarily via grants from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy (IACP) and the University of Florida. The primary developers of the APEX program are Kristin Wetzel, Pharm.D. and Randell Doty, Pharm.D. Please see the Acknowledgements section of this web site to see a full listing of the contributors and collaborators.

The Advanced Community Practice Preceptor Training program is the first program in the APEX line is focused on the training and support of preceptors in the community setting. This 15 hour web-based program (content provided via video streaming) is targeted towards new and experienced community preceptors. It includes experiential teaching skill and practice development tracks and informal “"roundtable"” type discussion sessions with teaching and clinical pearls from experienced preceptors. For more about this program please see the section of the web site on Training Programs.

The primary support feature for the community preceptor program aside from this website is The Preceptor's Community. This is a quarterly newsletter currently offered at no charge to all preceptors via the web. A link to that portion of the web site is provide if you would like to see the latest volume and/or review the archives.

The directors of the APEX program are committed to making the programs as affordable as possible to provide maximum availability to preceptors. Our commitment is to put every dollar possible back into the program to keep the available programs up to date and to create new programs for other areas of practice.
