There are 10.3 million people in the US with the disease, and an additional estimated 5.4 million have not yet been diagnosed. Many people do not become aware that they have diabetes until they develop one of its life-threatening symptoms such as blindness, kidney disease, nerve damage and heart disease.

Program of Study

The University of Florida's Diabetes Therapy Certificate Program provides the extensive training and information you need to manage the pharmacotherapy of patients with diabetes. You will be prepared to:

Modules

The Diabetes Therapy Certificate Program is divided into three independent learning modules to be completed in 12 weeks. You will earn 15 continuing education credits (1.5 CEU's) after completion of each module and a Certificate from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy upon completion of the full program, indicating that you have mastered a rigorous course of study.

Diabetes Therapy Course Objectives

1. Gain information about the pathophysiology, etiology, and complications of diabetes.
2. Understand the complexities of managing drug therapy and other treatment modalities.
3. Learn how pharmaceutical care is applied for patients with diabetes.
4. Use effective interpersonal skills to better educate patients, caregivers, and other health-care professionals.
5. Design a diabetes care center for effective patient care.
6. Know how to manage and market a diabetes care center in an ambulatory setting.
