"Next to integrity, competence is the first and most fundamental moral responsibility of all health professions ..... Each of our professions must insist that competence will be reinforced through the years of practice. After the degree is conferred, continuing education is society's only real guarantee of the optimal quality of health care." (Edmund D Pellegrino, MD, Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Medical Ethics, Center for Clinical Bioethics, Georgetown University writing in American Society of Health System Pharmacists. ASHP statement on continuing education. Am J Hosp Pharm. 1990: 47:1855)
Welcome to the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Division of Continuing Education. Our mission is to serve practicing pharmacists with innovative post-graduate professional education with the intent that the learning will result in improved competencies with an ultimate benefit for the patients we serve. We offer programs to meet the requirements for relicensure in most states, courses for continuous lifelong learning, and Certificate Programs in Pharmacy to help practicing pharmacists develop skills in drug therapy management.
Our courses are in formats accessible and functional for practitioners, that meet current and emerging practice needs, and in a manner consistent with the Criteria for Quality set forth by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). We study the literature and counsel with individual pharmacists, professional pharmacy organizations, health care groups, regulatory bodies, and other groups to determine educational needs, develop quality educational programs, evaluate educational outcomes, and deliver programming to help pharmacists learn new competencies or improve current competencies.
