College Of Pharmacy Program Details
FY 2008-2009

Eligibility and Nominations:

Each department in the College of Pharmacy is eligible to nominate qualified undergraduate students. Undergraduate students must be in their last two years of their academic program and have maintained an overall GPA of 2.8 or better. For the 2008-2009 competition, the students would conduct research on a full-time basis during the summer of 2008 and continue their work during the 2008-2009 academic year by taking research-oriented courses in the college for credit. The research project may be completed in any of the College of Pharmacy courses listed below:

  • PHA 4901       Problems in Pharmacy Health Care       1-2 credits/semester.
  • PHA 4902       Problems in Pharmacodynamics            1-2 credits/semester.
  • PHA 4905       Problems in Pharmaceutics                    1-2 credits/semester.
  • PHA 4906       Problems in Medicinal Chemistry          1-2 credits/semester.
  • PHA 4907       Problems in Pharmacy Practice             1-2 credits/semester.

The College of Pharmacy will accept nominations up to but not later than March 1, 2008. Nominations should include a copy of the student's application and a letter from the faculty supervisor. Selection Process:

Selection of the Undergraduate University Scholars within the College of Pharmacy will be made through the Graduate Studies Committee in the College of Pharmacy. Students will be notified of their selection by March 14, 2008, along with the faculty mentors and department chairs.

Presentation and Publication of Research Projects:

College of Pharmacy Undergraduate Research Scholars will have two opportunities to present their research projects during the Spring Semester of any given year. These will be at the College and University level. Within the College of Pharmacy each undergraduate student will be expected to present their research results at the College of Pharmacy’s Annual Research Showcase and Awards Recognition Day. Undergraduate students from throughout the College of Pharmacy will compete via poster presentations. Winners of this competition will receive a $300 cash award and a commemorative plaque signifying their accomplishment.

In addition, at a special University Scholars Symposium, Undergraduate Research Scholars will present their research results as either posters or oral presentations. Details of this symposium will be communicated at a later date.

Undergraduate Research Scholars within the College of Pharmacy will also be expected to publish their work at a minimum in the university’s on-line journal Undergraduate Research and, if worthy, in any other established scientific journal related to their line of research.
