Forensic Toxicology Course in Thailand
College of Pharmacy, University of Florida

Two years ago we began an on-line M.S. program in Forensic Toxicology through the College of Veterinary Medicine. This began with 20 students but now has an enrollment of over 200. Students are people who already work in crime laboratories throughout the U.S. and Canada, but we do have a few international students in the program. Beginning Spring 2003 we will have two new distance graduate programs run through the College of Pharmacy. These are Forensic Drug Chemistry and DNA. We are working on developing these programs internationally by partnering with a university in Europe, the Far East and South America. The foreign institution will work with us to develop the programs to meet the needs of law enforcement in these regions. This will include providing translations, workshops, etc. We now have a signed agreement with the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to act as our European partner. We expect to have a similar agreement in place by February with Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. We are in discussions with a couple of institutions in Brazil to set things up there. The goal is to provide training and education in all aspects of forensic investigation throughout the world. This effort is a joint UF/NFSTC initiative. NFSTC is the National Forensic Science Technology Center based in Largo, FL.
