Administrative Structure

The Center's research and education activities are directed by the Medical Scientific Oversight Committee. Research centers are established at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. The university research centers are affiliated with each other, work in dose collaboration and function in a complementary fashion under the general direction of the Medical Scientific Oversight Committee. The Medical Scientific Oversight Committee is composed as follows:
  1. two members representing the University of Florida,

  2. two members appointed by the Florida Department of Citrus,

  3. two at-large members representing other research institutions and/or federal government agencies, and

  4. one member representing United States Department of Agriculture.


Specific responsibilities of the Medical Scientific Oversight Committee include:
  • Approve a multi-year strategic research plan that incorporates research and education recommendations from the university research centers and the citrus industry.

  • Establishing the goals of the Center and approving research activities at the university research centers on an annual basis.

  • Be empowered to make agreed upon Statements to the public/media on an as needed basis to provide the results of research and their joint scientific knowledge and opinion.

  • Generally, monitor funded research to ensure timely completion.


Each university research center has established its own administrative structure within the respective university. Each university center has established a scientific board to guide center activities at the university. The membership of each scientific board is comprised to include representatives of the other university center and researchers representing broad areas of expertise.

The responsibilities of each university scientific board are:
  • To assist the Center for Food-Drug Interaction Research & Education in developing a scientific strategy and establishing research and education priorities.

  • To establish research and education goals of the research center, assure goals are in line with the strategy plan, and review annually.

  • To maintain liaisons with the Medical Scientific Oversight Committee and the other research centers.

  • To serve as a liaison to university faculty members.

  • To serve as a focal point to utilize the center and resources it provides to generate additional funding from public and private sources.
