What is STATA?
STATA is an environment for manipulating and analyzing data using statistical and graphical methods. Stata is an integrated package — not a collection of separate modules. You can intersperse data management, statistical, and graphical commands.
STATA is a very powerful, flexible general-purpose package for data analysis and data management, with excellent graphics capabilities and a graphic editor. STATA covers a wide range of statistical techniques and is programmable, allowing the user to add new commands. The package analyses data quickly by reading all data into storage memory which may be managed dynamically during a session. The data may include labels for data sets, variables and values. STATA is not point-and-click, but the command language is quite easy, and it covers a wider range of analyses than SPSS.
