Once appointed to the clinical faculty of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, instructors become eligible for certain benefits. Some of these benefits are for the site of the clerkship and some are for the faculty member. The following list summarizes these benefits:

Access to State University System facilities:

The State of Florida University system includes eleven Universities. Faculty have access to some of the facilities of these universities., e.g. Libraries, book stores, etc.

Access to State Rates:

Clinical Faculty of the University of Florida are eligible for discounted rates on rental cars and lodging. These are not always the lowest discount available, but they are almost always available. The current state contract for rental cars is with AVIS, but other companies may give discounts as well if asked. Lodging discounts vary from place to place. You will need to have a University of Florida Gator1 identification card in order to take advantage of these rates.

Access to the University of Florida Health Science Center Library:

Clinical Faculty of the University of Florida are eligible to receive access to the HSC library via the library proxy server. This process is for those faculty actively participating in the education of our students and is renewed yearly. Faculty must have a Gator1 ID card and have applied for access. Ms Fredricks is the person responsible for this process, Here are two word documents to help you get started. Access to Discounted CE from the UF College of Pharmacy:

Clinical Faculty of the University of Florida are eligible for discounted rates CE from the UF College of Pharmacy Office of Continuing Education. You can access these rates via the following link which is specifically for UF preceptors.

On this site you can find the link to the APEX program as well. While focused on Community preceptors many of the principles of this program can be used by anyone. In order to access this program for free instead of the normal price just register as normal and click the box that indicates you are paying by check. I will be sent an email asking if you are eligible and will approve you for a zero dollar registration.

Access to a Free Preceptor Training course from the APhA and NACDS:

The APhA and NACDS put together a training program for community preceptors and offer it free of charge. You can access it via this link.

Access to Free CE and Resources from the Pharmacist's Letter:

Clinical Faculty of the University of Florida are eligible for free CE and resources from the Pharmacist's Letter. Through a contract with the Pharmacist's Letter we have established a website to provide this. By using the link below you will be identified as a UF preceptor and have access to the CE and resources. The CE programs are concentrated on clincal teaching. The other kinds of resources available via the link are journal clubs, activity ideas, assignments ideas a preceptor discussion board, etc.

Access to University pricing for some goods:

Clinical Faculty of the University of Florida are eligible for university pricing for some items. To be clear this is not the pricing the university gets for institutional purchases, but the price negotiated by the university for personal purchases by faculty, staff, students etc. Please note that although some of these are good discounts they may not be the BEST discount. You should still shop around. There are several places this pricing can be found.

The University of Florida Bookstore

You will need to create an account to gain access to online shopping. You will need your Gator1 ID to set up your account. If you actually come to campus bring your Gator1 card if you plan on shopping.

Gov Connection

There is also significant savings for personal purchases as part of GovConnection's partnership with The University of Florida. Gov connection has many hardware and software solutions. You will need to sign up for a personal account. Again your Gator1 ID is necessary.

Apple

Apple has special pricing for faculty, staff and students through their UF specific Apple store. You will need to sign up for a personal account. Again your Gator1 ID is necessary.

Hewlett Packard

HP has special pricing for faculty, staff and students through their UF specific HP website. You will need to sign up for a personal account. Again your Gator1 ID is necessary.

Dell

Dell has special pricing for faculty, staff and students through their UF specific Dell website. You will need to sign up for a personal account. Again your Gator1 ID is necessary.

Microsoft Campus Agreement and Work at Home program

A campus agreement with Microsoft for office software, core client access licenses, and operating system upgrades was put in place for all university owned computers and for home use by faculty and staff on November 15, 2005. As part of the agreement the Work at Home program extends to all faculty and staff of organizations with covered computers. Under this portion of the agreement, one computer that is owned and operated by covered faculty and staff may also obtain the same client and office software benefits as a UF-owned computer. For work at home, the employee must obtain copies of software from the UF bookstore for the ‘cost of media’, which is currently about $10 for each software product. Gator 1 cards will be checked at the time of purchase to verify eligibility and track quantity.

Software included: Any currently supported ‘enterprise’ version of Microsoft Office for Windows (2007 or earlier) and Mac (2008 or earlier), any currently supported version of the Windows client operating system (Vista or earlier), and core client access licenses (CAL’s) for client connectivity to certain Microsoft servers and services.

The following are examples of software that are not included: Windows server software, SQL Server client access licenses, FrontPage, Visio, OneNote and PDA software.
