Kumar is from Calcutta the “city of joy”. After he finished his Bachelor of Pharmacy, he pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with specialization in marketing and finance. After working for a consumer durables company in India for two years as an Assistant Manager he decided to pursue a higher education in the field of Pharmacy and Health Care Administration. During his PGDM days Kumar was first exposed to basic principles of Micro and Macroeconomics. This formal but very short training in economics piqued his interested about learning how those principles could be applied to the world of pharmaceuticals and health care sector.
Areas of interest for Kumar are economic evaluation of healthcare interventions. With a good understanding of the methodological issues related to different economic evaluation techniques like CEA, CBA, CUA, he wants to focus on how these tools contribute to the effective and efficient allocation of healthcare care resources. Other interests include the area of pharmaceutical pricing from an economic perspective.
Kumar's masters thesis focused on measuring “Patients’ Willingness to Pay (WTP) for a Prospective Pharmacy Wellness Program in a Regional Health Center in Northwest Ohio”. Kumar is an Alumni fellow in the College of Pharmacy.
