Natasha, Chih-Ying Chen , MHA
Graduate Student

Natasha received her B.S degree in Pharmacy from National Taiwan University (NTU, Taipei, Taiwan) in June, 2001. Upon licensure in 2001, she worked at the National Reporting Center of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs). The Reporting Center is established by the Department of Health in Taiwan with the purpose to improve patient safety care. Her duties in the reporting center included: coordinating ADR reports and maintaining ADR database; evaluating Post-Marketing ADRs and analyzing database, trending the results and preparing educational articles to remind healthcare providers of those preventable ADRs.

Subsequently, in August 2002, she began schooling at the University of Pittsburgh in the MHA (Master of Health Administration) program. With the hopes of applying the administrative knowledge and skills she learned in the program into the pharmacy field, she began work part-time at the Drug Information Center (DIC) of University of Pittsburgh from January, 03 and completed her administrative internship in the DIC during the summer. One of Natahsa's major responsibilities was initiating an external quality improvement (QI) project for the DIC, focusing on customer satisfaction and the patient-specific impacts of our DI service. She developed a quality assessment tool for the DIC and conducted the survey from July, 03 to March 04. This project also became the topic of her master thesis.

Both of Natasha's previous working experiences, the ADR reporting center at Taiwan and the DIC center at Pittsburgh, reinforced her focus to the quality of pharmaceutical care and services. She aspires to pursue further study to increase her competence of designing epidemiologic studies that evaluate drug safety and employ economic analysis to evaluate the outcome of drug therapies. Natasha aims to become an expert who can play an important role in helping to reduce cost, improve outcomes, and engage in improving the quality of pharmacy care for patients.
