Dr. Kwon's main research interest is in stroke outcomes. Dr. Kwon has been involved with and contributed to multiple VA projects over the past two years. She has participated in the Quality of Life in Veterans with Stroke project (PI: Reker, D., Co-PI Duncan, P.) that evaluated the feasibility of using mail and telephone administration methods for the Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) in community dwelling patients with stroke. Currently, Dr. Kwon serves for Stroke Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI), a national program to improve quality of care for stroke patients. Her focus in this national initiative is on reducing the risk of stroke recurrence by assuring appropriate anticoagulation of stroke patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). She is serving for Operations Committee and Data/Methodology support team in Stroke QUERI.
In addition, Dr. Kwon’s current and future research projects include (1) developing a computerized adaptive cognitive measure for stroke, (2) evaluating the significance of medication adherence and laboratory follow-ups using a stroke risk model for patients with atrial fibrillation, and (3) patients, caregivers, and providers’ view on medication adherence for chronic disease and their decision-making, and (4) developing performance indicators and Identifying implementation/dissemination strategies to improve provider performance in local and national level.
