These directions can also be found on Dat on COP1/training/ppt7.doc
These are general major topics. Use the Edit-Find choice from the menu bar to search for something specific. If the topic isn't covered and you would like something added to this page please contact webmaster@cop.ufl.edu
NOTE: MAKE SURE ONCE YOU START POWERPOINT THAT THE SLIDE SETUP IS SET TO 35 mm SLIDES!.
This can be found in File - Page Setup. The default setting is for on-screen show which doesn't work well for LRC to print the slides.

1. Choose from the layout templates which slide you are creating (ie) title slide, one with bullets or one that has a picture inserted.
2. From format click on Apply Design to choose predetermined color layout.
3. If you do not like these color choices you can change individual colors by choosing Format -Slide Color Scheme and this will allow you to customize each aspect: background, title color, text color etc.
4. New slides can be added by clicking on New Slide
5. To insert an existing picture from the menu bar click on Insert Picture and you will have the choice of inserting from clipart or an existing file (*.pcx) that was created at some other time.
6. Note: If the picture comes in too big (which usually happens) then you can resize by:
a. Place the cursor over one of the small white boxes at a corner of the picture.
b. Wait until the cursor changes to a double headed arrow.
c. Hold the left mouse button down while dragging the corner to resize the picture.
d. Let go of the mouse button when the picture is the right size.
7. Once you click on the clipart a new menu bar appears so that you can change the picture's appearance and/or color.
a. If you want to cut out from the sides or top part of the picture you can use the crop tool.
b. Note not all pictures attributes can be changed, but usually the clipart works well.
Other pictures depend on the format.
8. Graphs can be inserted by copying from the original program and pasting into the slide or generated using the excel chart insert command at the top of the menu bar. This requires excel expertise.
9. Word art (words formatted as circles - slants) can be added to slides by clicking on the slanted A at the bottom of the screen.
10. Text can be added by clicking on the text box also on the bottom menu.
11. Clicking on the toolbar at the bottom for AutoShapes brings up different choices to add to the slide
12. Once you have clicked on an object on a slide you can change its position by the arrow keys (up, down, left right) or actually dragging the object. Clicking on the Draw button at the bottom of the menu bar will give other options for controlling the object.
13. The objects on the slide can be animated to enhance the presentation.
Click on the title and choose Slide Show Custom Animation or Preset. Each Object needs to be setup and you can determine the timing to be specific or on mouse click. The trick is to remember which slides are animated and which parts you have to click the mouse to begin animation.
PACK AND GO
14. If the presentation is too big for a floppy disk use PACK AND GO feature. From the menu bar choose file - pack and go this will automatically compress your file and add an exe file to your disk. Once you get to where the presentation is you can run the pngsetup.exe to decompress your file.

option of choosing how many slides/page
Master Slide Features
